As the holiday’s get closer, requests from friends and family have begun to trickle in on “what holiday treats” they’d like me to make this year! You see, each year I make little gift packs of homemade candy, cookies, and other festive treats to pass out to my nearest and dearest. One recipe I make every year around the holidays are these homemade Peppermint Patties. They are absolutely delicious, way better than the store bought and super easy to make! I hope you enjoy them as much as I do! Cheers!
Homemade Peppermint Patties
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup sweetened condensed milk
- 1 1/2 teaspoons organic peppermint extract
- 4 cups confectioners’ sugar
- 3 cups Guittard semisweet chocolate chips
- 2 teaspoons organic shortening
- Crushed candy cane
Directions
In a large mixing bowl, combine condensed milk and peppermint extract. Beat in enough confectioners’ sugar, a little at a time, to form a stiff dough that is no longer sticky. I really love using my KitchenAid for this part.
One completely combined. Form into 1 inch balls, then place on waxed paper and flatten with fingers, or a flat based meat pounder to form patties. Let patties dry at room temperature two hours, turning once.
In a medium saucepan over very low heat, melt chocolate with shortening, stirring often. Be careful not to burn or get too hot. Remove from heat. Dip patties, one at a time, into chocolate by laying them on the tines of a fork and lowering the fork into the liquid. Sprinkle with crushed candy cane. Let cool on waxed paper until set.
If short on time, I will also occasionally skip fully dipping the peppermint patties and simply coat the tops of the patties with melted chocolate and finish with crushed candy canes. It looks just as nice and tastes just as good!
Really relish in all things peppermint and enjoy one of these patties with a homemade healthy peppermint mocha latte!
Happy Holidays,
M
