Travel Tips For Planning a Stress-Free Vacation
February 18, 2020We book vacations to escape the stressed of everyday life, not to create unneeded new ones! Follow these travel tips for planning a stress-free vacation to keep your vacation memorable and, most importantly, stress-free.
Pack Light
I’m completely guilty of over-packing. In fact, even as a seasoned traveler, I still have a tendency to want to take my whole closet with me! Though, too much luggage can create a struggle—lugging it all to and from the airport, making sure it all fits into that tiny rental car you rented, keeping an eye on it while you move from place to place. Try to keep your clothing options easy and only pack the necessities. Much easier said than done, I know, but there are certain things you can leave behind. Don’t pack the heels, the wedges and the platform sandals you know you’ll never wear, and pack your flat sandals instead. Avoid baggage claim by fitting everything you bring into your carry-on. Use my carry-on packing guide to help you streamline what you bring along!
Do Your Research
Arriving at your destination with no idea of how you plan to get from point A to point B would stress anyone out. It is always a good idea to do as much pre-planning research as you can about your destination ahead of time. Figure out transportation, restaurants, if they operate using Uber or old school taxi cabs, and even if there are any special visa requirements. You will breath a lot easier.
Identify A Collective Goal
When traveling with others, or even a group, remember that everyone travels differently and can come with a different set of preferences. Make sure to identify these goals before you head off on vacation. Taking this extra step will avoid those awkward moments and potential conflict when you realize your expectations differ from theirs.
Be Flexible
I use to plan my vacations down to the very last minute… but what I quickly learned was that we never had any time for rest and relaxation, or even that impromptu experience that basically would make our entire vacation! Sometimes, even the unexpected can happen such as a delayed flight, or canceled tour which would then throw your entire itinerary off. I often times try to plan some activities for specific days, and then leave some days completely open. I travel prepared with a list of other activities which sounds fun and require no pre-planning that would simply slip into free days. I find that when your schedule is flexible, you’re not rushing to complete everything on your travel wish list. You have more time to discover that hidden street, catch up on sleep, and truly enjoy the down time, which is the entire reason you went on vacation in the first place.
Leave The Pressure At Home
This one is self-explanatory. Remember, the best memories you make on vacation are those that unexpectedly come from a good conversation, a tasty meal, and the wonderful people around you. So chill and do not try to force the vacation to be absolutely perfect.
