As I was packing for our relaxed little getaway to Mendocino, California, I realized there are some solid coast essentials that we bring along everytime we visit a coastal community. In fact, most of these items even live in a special bag in my closet, specifically dedicated for “going to the coast”. So if you’re planning a trip to the coast in the near future, consider book marking this page to make sure you remember to bring the essentials!

Northern California Coast Essentials

Coast Bag

You’ll want to make sure whatever you pack your coast essentials in is waterproof. I prefer to stow most of my items in a waterproof back pack cooler, so that if it takes a while to get to our spot, I’m still comfortable and one of my arms doesn’t feel like it’s about to fall off.

This backpack cooler by Igloo is my FAVORITE! Tyler recently got it as a gift and we cram it full of all our beach gear, plus beverages, and lunch! It’s perfect!

Clothing

The weather along the Northern California coast can be gorgeous one moment, and breezy the next. That’s why it’s always a good idea to bring some layers with you! Hats, a cozy thermal, a rain coat, all of which are good to bring along most of the year! The following are my favorites to layer with.

Beach

One thing to never leave home without is a good beach blanket or beach towel. The Northern California Coast is the perfect place to spread a blanket and hunker down, read a good book or just enjoy watching the ocean. These are my absolute favorite blankets and towels to bring along.

Accessories

Depending on your type of “coasting” some of these accessories might be necessary to pack along for the trip! The hubs and I love to spread a blanket, relax, drink some coffee, read, take naps…while my brother likes to dig holes, build sand castles and explore. These accessories are the best for either type of coastal experience.
