Homemade Kahlua Recipe
February 24, 2022I mentioned in my last blog post (see it here!) that a sweet girlfriend of mine gifted me this delicious bottle of homemade Kahlua for the holidays…well, what I didn’t mention was how the minute I tried a sip of that yumminess I was immediately transported back to my childhood and my mom’s homemade Kahlua. For as long as I can recall, every year around Thanksgiving my mom would whip up a batch of Kahlua for hostess gifts. Of course, I reached out to my mom and below is her tried and true homemade Kahlua recipe! Perfect for splashing into coffee or shaking up into a cocktail, it’s easy to make and also makes the perfect gift! Enjoy!
HOMEMADE KAHLUA RECIPE
– 4 cups water
– 1 cup instant coffee (I love this organic kind!)
– 1 750 ml bottle white Rum or Everclear
– 4 cups organic brown sugar
– 3 tbs vanilla bean paste OR 3 tbs vanilla extract
INSTRUCTIONS
Combine water and instant coffee in a pot and bring to a boil. Stir the brown sugar into coffee, reduce heat, and simmer, stirring every 15 minutes, for 3 hours. Please note, the longer it simmers, the thicker it will become. Next remove from the heat and cool completely before adding in your Rum or Everclear, vanilla extract, and vanilla bean. Cover with a tight fitting lid and let sit in a dark place for 2 – 3 weeks. Divide into bottles and enjoy!
