Serving Up The Classic Daiquiri!
March 26, 2023Whenever I used to watch those old school television shows where the wife was shaking – or stirring – her hubby a cocktail to greet him at the door with (thank god for dogs…am I right?!) I was totally intrigued. I wondered what exactly was she making him? Three simple ingredients? A quick shake and into the glass it goes? And it wasn’t until I was older and just starting my short-lived career as a bartender that I put all those little pieces into place. That woman on TV, all those years ago was making her husband either a vodka or gin martini, or serving up the classic Daiquiri. You see, the Daiquiri is not the adult slushie that probably comes to your mind, it’s a simple and sublime craft cocktail, supposedly invented in 1898 in the mining town of Daiquiri on the southeastern tip of Cuba by an American mining engineer named Jennings Cox. A delicate blend of rum’s sweetness with the raw freshness of sugar and lime juice, it leans on basic but tips the scale on delightful. Today I’m serving up the classic Daiquiri to show you what makes a daiquiri a daiquiri and you’re going to love it. I promise! Cheers!
