A Brambling Blackberry Cocktail Recipe
September 30, 2020It is the tail end of blackberry season in Oregon right now, and I’m just over here crying into my cocktail because I do NOT want the fresh fruit abundance to stop! But I did pull it together long enough to create this seriously refreshing little number which I’m calling the Brambling Blackberry, as a nod to the classic drink “The Bramble”. The Bramble, first created in London in the 80’s, was made with dry gin, lemon juice, simple syrup and Crème de Mûre, a blackberry liquor, while my version uses a handful of fresh juicy ripe blackberries. Uhhh, yum?! Check out the recipe below and shake up a batch tonight! Cheers!
INGREDIENTS
(makes enough for 2 cocktails)
INSTRUCTIONS
First off, muddle your blackberries in the bottom of a cocktail shaker (this is a great set!). Next, add your gin, lemon juice, and blackberry syrup into your cocktail shaker and fill with ice. Shake, shake, shake (about 8 hard shakes) and strain into two double old-fashioned glasses filled with ice or one large cube. Top your cocktail with Soda or Ginger Beer, and finish your drink by garnishing with a lemon wedge, and a few fresh blackberries!
NOTE: Making blackberry syrup is simple! I just use my mom’s true and tested recipe. To make the blackberry syrup, dissolve 1 cup sugar into 1 cup water over high heat, add 1/2 cup fresh blackberries to the pot and simmer on low until the mixture coats the back of a spoon. Last, let the syrup cool and then strain into a small bottle with a stopper (like this). This will store up to one month in the fridge.
