The Perfect Mai Tai Drink Recipe!
June 15, 2023It’s right about now when the weather is cold, sunny, rainy, cold… basically cold..cold..cold that I begin craving the warm sunshine of the Hawaiian Islands. And if I’m being honest…I actually always crave that warm tropical sunshine. That’s why today I thought I’d transport us all to that sunshine state with this recipe for how to make a perfect Mai Tai! And let me be the first to tell you – – this is the the perfect Mai Tai drink recipe! A delicate blend of citrus, with hints of caramel, vanilla and toasted almond rum, Hawaii’s Mai Tais are both sinfully strong and delightfully not-to-sweet. Tourists love to order them and they’re a go-to drink that Hawaii locals are unashamed to order (read: they’re strong!). Cheers friends! The Perfect Mai Tai Drink Recipe
The Perfect Mai Tai
Ingredients
- 3/4 oz Kōloa White Rum
- 3/4 oz Kōloa Gold Rum
- 3/4 oz Kōloa Dark Rum
- 1/2 oz Grand Marnier
- 1 oz Fresh Lime Juice
- 1 oz Pineapple Juice
- 1 oz Orange Juice I love using this organic juice for cocktails.
- 3/4 oz Orgeat Syrup This is my favorite Orgeat Syrup.
- 1 Pineapple Cut into wedges for garnish.
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker (except the Kōloa Dark Rumand pineapple garnish) and fill with ice.
- Shake, shake, shake (about 8 hard shakes) and strain into a double old-fashioned glass filled with fresh ice cubes (I like these with the weighted bottoms).
- Finish your drink with a float of 3/4 ounces of the Kōloa Dark Rum and garnish with an orchid, lime, orange and pineapple wedge!
- ENJOY!
What is Orgeat Syrup? It’s a syrup made from real roasted almonds, pure cane sugar, and bitter almond oil. It’s a staple in the Mai Tai and gives it that authentic flavor. I love this brand because it was crafted in the USA and is a high quality Orgeat syrup.
What Can I Substitute For Orgeat? Because Orgeat syrup is made from almonds, you can try making your own orgeat or almond syrup, or you can use Amaretto liqueur, or Creme d’Amade.
