When we started on our new home build one thing was clear: the kitchen was a priority for us. Fortunately, the builder we had selected to work with made life easy and had already done a ton of research looking for appliances that would be functional and also beautiful in the homes they created. Let’s face it: most of us are looking for aesthetics nowadays, not just the features the appliances offer. So when we were presented with the GE Café Appliance line, we were pretty smitten from the start. What we loved about the GE Café line was it’s modern design and statement look, without being overdone, and we appreciated that the Café Appliances line is what you would call affordable luxury. It gives you that high-end designer look at a fraction of the cost of luxury or built-in appliances, and is produced by a well-known, quality manufacturer. The best part about this line? You can customize almost every aesthetic detail! It makes matching your kitchen vibe and look to a GE Café appliance simple and versatile. We purchased the microwave, gas range, dishwasher and refrigerator in this line of appliances and today, I’m going to share why these are truly the best appliances for your kitchen too! I got a ton of questions specifically about our fridge, so I’ll focus this post specifically on that appliance!
GE CAFÉ REFRIDGERATOR
CUSTOMIZABLE OPTIONS
This modern refrigerator comes in three color options: matte white, matte black and stainless steel. What makes the Cafe Appliances line so different from other appliances is you can customize your look by choosing a color and changing the hardware finish. The are four finish options: brushed bronze, brushed black, copper and stainless steel. I have the stainless steel with the brushed bronze accent, which I personally love how it plays with our brass cabinet hardware! Now, I’ll be honest, our fridge took a ridiculous amount of time to arrive, so make sure you plan ahead and order early!
HIGH-END LOOK FOR LESS
Gone are the days where you are stuck between choosing a basic refrigerator that’s a good value or breaking the bank on super high end appliances just to achieve the “look” you’re going for. Trust me, there was a point where Tyler and I considered going with the all Viking appliance, but once we did extensive research on the bells and whistles, we realized that the GE Café line offered just as much and MORE for a better price point.
EASY TO CLEAN
I cannot express how easy these appliances are to clean. Not only are they already fingerprint resistant, wiping them down is a breeze. It doesn’t show streak marks and all of the shelves and drawers inside each appliance are easy to take out to rinse. The oven has a steam clean feature as well which makes it a breeze to freshen up.
MY FAVORITE APPLIANCE IN THE CAFÉ LINE
This GE Café Refrigerator is easily my favorite in the whole line and is what I’d like to call feature-rich. We got the 22.2 cu. ft. Smart French Door Refrigerator in Stainless Steel, Counter Depth model and absolutely love it! Below I’ll tell you exactly why it’s my FAVE! One thing to note, the GE Café line has more than 20 different refrigerators to choose from!
STORAGE CAPACITY
I’ll be honest: this is a pretty big refrigerator, but it’s not the biggest, especially if you get the 22.2 cubic feet counter depth. However, what I love about the appliance is it’s use of space. There is not one inch of unusable space, everything has a purpose and is moveable and customizable to how you shop and live your life. If you’re big into drinking milk or almond milk and buy the larger sized jugs, these fit nicely in the door and leave plenty of space on the shelves for other provisions. I also love how well everything spaces out so I can literally see everything inside. I know exactly what we have and what we need to use.
DRAWERS & SHELVES
All of the shelves on our GE Café Refrigerator have a drip-edge to catch spills from going everywhere in the fridge, which is a plus. I love how the interior shelves and drawers are adjustable to let you organize the fridge to fit your needs. We keep all of our condiments in the door, along with any fresh mixers, bottles of wine and more! The door on the left has smaller shelves, perfect for tucking butter, and small items. There is a full-width, electronic temperature-controlled drawer with LED lighting at the bottom. Store whatever you want in here, we have cheeses and charcuteries in the bottom drawer, fruit in the second drawer and fresh veggies in the third drawer. All set to their perfect temperatures!
LIGHTING
I love how this refrigerator is lit up. I never thought I would say that. Everything is so strategically thought out, there are no dark corners where leftovers can go bad. GE Café calls this their showcase lighting and the lights are placed along the outer rim, with each drawer having it’s own light.
ORGANIZATION
I plan on doing a full blog post on how we organize our refrigerator in the future but I wanted to share a few things that really help keep things in check! First, I merchandise all the products with expiration dates from “use first” to “use last” front to back on the shelves. This is really helpful for Tyler when he just opens the fridge to grab something, he isn’t left guessing which he should open or use and when. Last, I also remove all fruits and veggies from their plastic and store them right away in the drawers – sometimes in glass storage containers, which helps with keeping them fresh and visible!
I hope you enjoyed this review of the best appliances for your kitchen and you’re feeling less stressed about the choices you need to make. If you’re looking for more home inspiration, check out my round up of Studio McGee’s 2021 Target Collection!
