My girlfriend and her significant other totally inspired this post, as they have been absolutely perfecting the stay-at-home date nights these days. And, since everyones comfort levels are different and the world as we knew it has totally changed, I figured we ALL could benefit from getting extra creative with how we spend our evenings and date nights! You see, it’s still super important to “date” your significant other, even if you’re already married, or are married and have kids. Dates are where you tune into your partner, ditch the phone and make your relationship the priority. Plus, who doesn’t love getting dressed up?! That’s why today I am sharing some stay-at-home date night ideas with you! And, if you’re single and reading this, these are even some great ideas to share with your roommates! Cheers to staying home and still having a good time!
STAY-AT-HOME DATE NIGHT IDEAS
CREATE A FUN COCKTAIL
You know the basics of cocktail making, I’m sure. Liquor of choice + mix of choice + optional embellishment = Cocktail. So why not make it fun? Agree on a liquor (or whatever you have in the house!) and get creative with what you might have in stock or in the kitchen. You’ll have a seriously great time being creative and coming up with your own recipes!
If you’re looking for inspiration, I love this cocktail book by local Oregonian Jeffrey Morgenthaler, which you can also order on Kindle and have immediately at your finger tips! If you are seriously low on mixes, or tasty ingredients to mix with your alcohol, consider some of the mixes or kits below, which can be delivered directly to your home! I’ve also included a few of my favorite shaker sets.
CREATE A BEER or WINE TASTING
First, download and print this FREE BEER TASTING MAT or this FREE WINE TASTING MAT. Then pick a theme, for example, “we’re comparing IPA’s” or, “we are specifically trying this line up of beers from Hop Valley”, if you’re tasting wines consider “all Oregon Pinot Noirs” or “all Syrah”. You can choose to sample a wide range of beers or wine, or narrow your focus! Use clear plastic cups (like these super cute ones in rose gold!), or even a sampler kit like the ones below and pour about a 3 oz sample of beer and a 1-2 oz sample of wine. I’s important to learn a little bit about each brand/beer or wine/style, etc. Get some background information on each, including the history of the company(s) and where it’s made. Next, make a nice cheese or charcuterie plate to go along with it and have a great time together discussing the different beer or wine! CHEERS!
COOK DINNER TOGETHER
This Newlywed Cookbook has definitely come in handy these past few weeks! The hubs and I have been cooking up a storm together already, so how to make it special? Well, get dressed up! Prep all your ingredients, set the table and then go and get date ready! Set a time that you’re planning to rendezvous in the kitchen, make a fun cocktail or pour a glass of wine (break open that special bottle!) and finish cooking dinner together. Make sure to put your phone away and turn off any distractions like the TV. Set the mood by lighting candles, turning down the lights, playing music and really listening to one another. This might just end up being one of the best dates you’ve ever been on!
HAVE A THEMED DINNER NIGHT
Want to keep it casual, or a way to get the kids involved? Have a themed dinner night and dress up to fit the theme! Break out those Hawaiian shirts, and cook up some tasty teriyaki chicken over rice, or, put on your sombrero and make some sizzling fajitas! Whatever your theme, just make sure the cocktail or mocktail, matches!
HAVE A PICNIC (INDOORS OR OUTDOORS)
This is one of my favorites! Sometimes it’s fun to mix things up! Keep it indoors and spread a blanket in front of the TV, make this yummy cocktail and share a platter of all of your favorite meats and cheeses. This could also be a good idea if you have kids! Or, if the weather is good head outside to picnic, fire up the BBQ and have a great time enjoying the beautiful weather.
BREAKFAST IN BED
Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day! So why not surprise your spouse or, significant other with breakfast in bed? Break out those breakfast trays (which also double as a great laptop tray!) and whip up up your favorite breakfast food, maybe some eggs and toast, or homemade french toast? Deliver it with love and a mimosa or bloody mary, cuddle down in bed and enjoy each others company!
GAME NIGHT
This is one we already do, and it’s so much fun! The hubs and I are very competitive (even though Tyler regularly cheats), we love playing each other in board games like Monopoly, UNO and Yahtzee, to name a few classics. We recently discovered a bunch of fun new games that are not only perfect for couples, but great for the whole family! I’ve listed them below! And, if you have games you and your family love to play together, let me know! We love trying out new games together.
Incohearant // Under Over // Sushi Go // Our Moments Couples // Our Moments Families // Our Moments Kids // Monopoly Deal // Throw Throw Burrito // Cards Against Humanity // Unstable Unicorns //
I hope you’ve enjoyed these stay-at-home date night ideas! Stay happy and healthy everyone!

M
