If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you’ve probably already heard the news and have seen the change in scenery…. but we moved to Eugene! Yayyyy! Can you believe it?! It finally happened and we are THRILLED! First off, I cannot even begin to tell you how happy we are to be home. Living in Salem had its highlights, but we felt far from family, and with my parents getting older, we really wanted to move back to the place we both loved- Eugene, Oregon!
Wait.. WHAT!
Yep! We decided about a year and a half ago that we wanted to sell our house in Salem and make the move, but we needed to take care of a little business first.
1. We needed to find a new home in Eugene! We worked with my super saavy girlfriend Jennifer Whipple-Henrikson (part of the Whipple Real Estate Team) if you’re moving to Eugene, consider working with her and the team because they are amazing!
2. We needed to sell our home in Salem, but before we could do that we needed to wait a few months to avoid paying Capital Gains Tax (it’s about 10% and such a bitch).
3. We wanted to make sure my business had a solid foundation and was taking off before we rocked the boat. NAILED IT!
I’m sure I could come up with a few more reasons, but these were the bigger picture items we needed to hurdle before we made the leap!
Sooo…did you actually buy a house?
Sure did! In fact, we are actually building a house. You see, about four years ago, we lived through something kinda traumatizing (it was TOTALLY TRAUMATIZING) with the home we were living in at the time. It was not immediate, but soon after we moved in, I started to become sicker and sicker. I had all sorts of inexplicable health problems (as did Tyler and our little fur baby Nick!) and then we found it….. mold. Yep, inside the walls, under the carpet, in the HVAC. Everywhere. Obviously, we immediately moved out, but it was a slow process for me to fully recover, and I still have some lingering health issues from it, mostly related to my central nervous system. Anyway, with that being said, we have extreme PTMD (post traumatic mold disorder) and finding a already built home with no water damage issues, no dry rot, no dampness, well-built, etc. etc. in the PNW, is a challenge to say the least. That’s why we decided to build and monitor the whole process from start to finish. That way when we move in, we know for a fact that it will be mold and mildew FREE! Yayy!
If you’re building, where are you living?
Since we began the building process in the beginning of the year, we knew that we needed to sell our house before the end of the summer. We listed our house during Covid19, anticipating it would take a while to see since we were seriously limiting showings, and it sold much more quickly than we anticipated….which was totally okay with us! So, in the meantime, we are renting an apartment in Eugene for about the next six months, or until our house is finished being built!
Tell me exactly, how excited are you?!
SO EXCITED!!!! I do not even care that we are apartment-bound and socially distancing, it just feels so absolutely amazing to be home and surrounded by all our friends and loved ones! We’re also super stoked to be back near all the places we love to visit, hike, walk, eat, drink (wine)… everything! Make sure to follow along with me on Instagram for the day-to-day adventures!
