Whatever your adventure, consider purchasing travel insurance. Honestly, if you had asked me five years ago if I’d ever purchase travel insurance, I would’ve said no! Maybe it’s because I’m getting older or I’ve lost a bit of that “invincible” feeling, but now I would never travel without it. Today, I’ll cover the best travelers insurance companies, based on collective consumer feedback and reviews.
Before we get started, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, travel insurance does not solve everything. While the below list of companies provides some of the best travelers insurance, they are not perfect. Make sure to read the fine print restrictions and limitations, and understand the parameters surrounding pre-existing conditions. Read all the details to avoid getting stuck with a totally useless insurance policy.
Additionally, there are some items even the best travel insurance company will not cover. Make sure to fully consider your medical conditions, and those of who you’re traveling with.
For example, we’ve added Medjet to our insurance line up whenever we travel with my parents. We pay $295 for a one-year medical evacuation membership with Medjet, which if needed, will arrange air medical transport all the way back to the hospital of our choice in our home country. This way, no matter where we are, should one of my parents have a severe emergency, we can evacuate them home immediately.
Lastly, consider what credit cards you’ll be taking on your trip and what trip insurance benefits they provide. Feel free to refer to My Favorite Travel Credit Cards, for a guide on what credit cards are the best for travelers.
Allianz Global Assistance
Allianz Global Assistance is the largest travel insurance company on my list and its owned by the largest diversified insurance company in the world. Because of the size of its parent company, Allianz can offer better insurance at a lower rate and typically works fast on claims.
Amex Assurance
Amex Assurance offers various kinds of protection and insurance policies, and you don’t have to be an Amex cardmember to qualify.
Generali Global Assistance
Generali Global Assistance is one of the oldest travel insurance companies as its parent company, The Europ Assistance Group, has been around since 1963. The company overall has a very customer-first attitude and is easy to work with.
GeoBlue
GeoBlue International Travel Insurance has specialized in travel insurance policies for over 20 year and is part of a partnership between the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association and British insurance company Bupa. The company has a reputation for being easy to work with and approachable.
Travelex
Travelex offers solid coverage and well-rounded travel insurance policies and is known for easy filing and quick outcomes should a claim filed.
Safe travels!
