I grew up heading over the mountain to Sunriver, Oregon during the wintertime for family ski vacations. My parents, avid cross-country skiers at the time, loved the proximity to ideal trails and my siblings appreciated how quick it was to zip up the mountain to Mt. Bachelor for downhill skiing. My first time learning how to ski was in Sunriver on one of these family trips, and I truthfully have nothing but the best of memories from these adventures. However, when my siblings got older and moved out of my parents house, the family trips quickly became a memory and I began going to Sunriver with friends and their families, which soon turned into just me and my girlfriends, to most recently, work and couples trips. Though one thing will always ring true – it is truly the perfect getaway! Anytime, and anyone, you plan a trip to Sunriver with, I promise you one thing, you’re going to have fun no matter what the season or the reason! Today, I’m sharing my most recent adventures from our getaway to Sunriver, Oregon which you can use as a travel guide no matter what time of year you decide to visit!
SUNRIVER, OREGON TRAVEL GUIDE

Sunriver Resort is a great destination for couples and families alike as there is plenty to keep everyone entertained!
SEE
For those who want to stay close and not leave Sunriver, there are plenty of places to ride bikes or nearby trails to walk. No matter what season, I love going for long walks in the morning, and during summer months I enjoy bike rides during the late afternoon before we head out for dinner. If you like lounging by the pool, the SHARC’s indoor play area has a huge hot tub for adults and a heated play pool for the kids, whereas during summer months you can enjoy the various outdoor pools and activities! Just don’t forget to make a stop at Goody’s, where they have been crafting handmade chocolates and ice cream with fresh, local ingredients in Central Oregon since 1984, for a sundae or ice cream cone.
Off-campus, one adventure along the Hwy 97, which you surely do not want to miss, is a stop off at Lava Lands Visitor Center and State Park to walk the Trail of Molten Land and the Trail of the Whispering Pines. The 5.5 mile Sun-Lava paved path is an accessible and scenic hike to the top of Lava Butte for a spectacular view of Central Oregon. Absolutely breathtaking! If weather allows, consider a picnicking under the pines, or attending one of the seasonal ranger talks. The terrain is similar to that found on the moon – so it’s no wonder the Apollo Astronauts practiced their lunar walks here!
The High Desert Museum is another great stop for the whole family, or as a couple and can also be found along Hwy 97. There are exhibits, both indoors and out, that provide insight on the region’s past, present and future. It’s one of my favorite places to idly spend the afternoon learning about a little piece of Oregon’s history, the regions terrain and the animals that inhibit it.
