The novelty of this whole social distancing thing totally wore off already. At first, it was like a type of “stay-cation” with the hubs and now it’s just still us, together, all the time, and I’m beginning to go a little stir crazy! I’ve also eaten all my fun snacks, run out of ingredients for the recipes I’d been wanting to try out, been baking way too much for us to actually consume and I’m honestly over it! It’s hard. That’s why, for today’s Monday Motivation, I’m bringing to you some ideas to stay healthy (mentally, emotionally and physically) during this time as I know how incredibly difficult and trying this period is (especially if you live alone!). I’m personally practicing each one of these, and have already noticed a big difference, so without further ado here are a few key ways to stay healthy while practicing social distancing!
SCHEDULE WORKOUTS
Just like you would normally, it really helps to plan when you are going to workout for the day or to keep your regular schedule. I like to be active at leave five times per week, so my goal has been to get up at the same time every day and get moving! The first week I was lazy and sleeping in, but this past week of setting a regular schedule has been a huge mental game changer for me. If you’re looking for a home workout program, I recommend checking out this post about the best at home workout apps! There are some awesome workout programs out there and even one of them is offering a free 30 day trial!
READ
One of the BEST things you can do for your mental health is reading. It helps you relax and “escape” for a little bit, especially if it’s a good fiction novel. While you should not be heading to the library of the bookstore right now, think about ordering books online from Ebay or Amazon, or even downloading books to your IPhone or IPad using iBooks or your Kindle app!
HAVE A SPA NIGHT
Need something to really look forward to? Plan a spa night for yourself! A spa night can be great for your physical, mental and emotional health because it eases stress and helps you get a good nights sleep. Usually I light a few candles in my bathroom, fill the tub ( I always use these bath salts!) and grab a book to read while I relax. Afterward I will make myself a cup of tea or hot cocoa, and do a little paraffin hand or foot dip. I’ve highlighted all my favorite at-home pampering products in this blog post!
VIDEO CHAT WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY
Social interaction is so incredibly important right now! I miss my parents and friends so much, but I’ve been regularly FaceTiming with my folks to see each other face-to-face. This past Saturday morning, four of my girlfriends and I had “FaceTime Mimosas” where we sipped bubbles and caught up with each other for an hour. If you want to try it out with your friends, use either Group FaceTime, Marco Polo Group or even Zoom! All of which are great options!
GO FOR A DRIVE
Even if it’s just for a 15 minute quick loop around town, a drive will help you feel a lot more normal during this time. Hopefully, the weather is good so you can roll down the windows, play a few of your favorite songs and just relax a bit! If you have some extra time, consider going for a drive to one of your favorite lookout points and spend a little time out in mother nature!
HAVE A DATE NIGHT
My girlfriend and her significant other totally inspired this one, as they have been absolutely perfecting the stay-at-home date nights these past few weeks. And, since none of us will be leaving our homes anytime soon, I figured we ALL will have to get extra creative with how we spend our evenings and date nights! You see, it’s still super important to “date” your significant other, even if you’re already married, or are married and have kids. Dates are where you tune into your partner, ditch the phone and make your relationship the priority. Plus, who doesn’t love getting dressed up?! I’ve rounded up some of the BEST stay-at-home date night ideas in this post! And, if you’re single and reading this, these are even some great ideas to share with your roommates.
SPRING CLEAN
While being stuck at home, it’s an ideal time to get your house in order and do some deep cleaning! I don’t know about you, but whenever I clean my house, I mentally feel better afterward. Last week I was chatting with some girlfriends about one of the best things we ever added to our household, and it was our Mrs. Meyers Cleaning products (more on that here!). We also had to chuckle because, well, this is hardcore adulting. No doubt about it. Below I’ve put together a list of the best areas to start with, and if you’re really motived check out this post all about Spring Cleaning.
– Pull everything out of your drawers, wipe them out and then organize. Getting rid of things you do not need or use.
– Organize your cabinets
– Organize your pantry, getting rid of anything expired or unneccesary.
– Organize and tidy your closets. I personally use Marie Kondo’s technique from Magic Art of Tidying Up!
I’m pretty much obsessed with The Container Store. Every time I walk through the store, I’m inspired to organize another part of my house. A few of my absolutely favorite items from The Container Store, I’ve listed below!
I have some of these storage bins in almost each room of our house. They work perfectly for items that need a nice, organized home while still looking good on the shelf!
I use the largest version of this to store extra blankets in our living room. It’s cute and functional!
This adorable makeup organizer is one of my favorite items! It works so well keeping all my different makeup neat and ready to use!
It took me forever to find a laundry organizer basket I loved, we tried out so many different models it was totally frustrating. We finally found this gem and you would not believe how amazing it’s been. It makes laundry day so easy because everything is already sorted and ready to dump right into the laundry!
I love storing our dry goods in glass containers, and these are the best ones I’ve found so far! Not only do they keep our food fresh, but it’s easy to organize in the cupboard.
If you’re also looking for glass storage containers for leftovers, we’ve been really enjoying these!
I hope you enjoyed this post on how to stay healthy while social distancing! Now, before you get settled into pamper, clean, or even reading mode go and pour yourself a glass of wine and a take a deep relaxing breath. We are all going to be fine.

M
