I love winter. The snow, cold temps and even the rain…I love every little bit about it. Of course, there is one thing I particularly adore about Oregon winters, and that’s the great indoors! A cozy armchair pulled up alongside the fire, a hot cup of cocoa (or glass of wine) in hand and a good book (who am I kidding, a good Hallmark movie) and you’ve just painted my perfect winter scene. That’s why today, I’ve gathered the perfect winter getaways in the Pacific Northwest for snuggling down and warming up this winter!
MOUNTAINS
Timberline Lodge, Mt. Hood, OR
Mount Hood is home to five ski areas and miles upon miles of cross-country ski and snowshoe trails. In fact, two of Mount Hood’s snow-parks even offer trails for snowmobiling. This wealth of winter fun is all within two hours of Portland! Timberline Lodge is the only ski-in, ski-out resort in Oregon. The super-popular 60-room lodge located on the slopes of Timberline Ski Area sits at an elevation of 5,960-feet and is set just below the Palmer Glacier. This lodge was built expressly as a ski lodge, where guests are greeted in from the slopes by a warming fire in the stone hearth and welcomed by the lodge’s resident St. Bernards.
Brasada Ranch, Powell Butte, OR
Brasada Ranch features boutique hotel suites and luxurious vacation rentals that are unlike everything else you’ve come to expect and is the perfect wintertime destination! This gorgeous resort features cozy cabins, crackling fireplaces, endless outdoor adventures, and panoramic views of the surrounding scenery that will make you feel like you’ve stumbled into a true winter wonderland. Cozy up in the hot tub, while enjoying a glass of wine, or be a kid again by gathering around the fire pit, roasting up a batch of their homemade marshmallows and pressing them between their from-scratch graham crackers to make s’mores. This is the perfect place to come for a lazy, long weekend.
Sunriver Resort, Sunriver, OR
For the most magical winter wonderland experience, enjoy a weekend getaway to Sunriver Resort. This magical place is the perfect spot to unwind, and in the winter it turns into a wonderland. The resort offers cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, tubing, ice skating, sleigh rides and more! There is also an on-site spa, where you can spend the day getting pampered. Sunriver Resort is a great destination for couples and families alike as there is plenty to keep everyone entertained!
Suncadia, Cle Elum, WA
For a true resort experience in Washington, check out this amazing winter destination! Suncadia Resort offers cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, tubing, ice skating, sleigh rides and more! If you’re more of an indoor type of person, curl up by the fire, spend some time at the spa or relax by the indoor pool! If you’re a really ski or snowboard bum, Suncadia also makes an ideal location for heading towards the nearby Summit at Snoqualmie which is nearby.
Leavenworth, WA
Leavenworth is definitely at the top of my list for a perfect wintery destination. It’s truly adorable. The German-themed town is a great place to stay with its Bavarian appeal (most businesses in downtown look like they are right out of the Bavarian Alps!). While it’s not a big city, you can easily enjoy a short weekend getaway filled with shopping, theatre, and plenty of German food! Including beer!
If visiting during the winter season, consider heading out to the nearby trails for snowshoeing or snowmobiling, or even one of the local ski resorts such as Stevens Pass, Mission Ridge or Leavenworth Ski Hill. One thing is for sure, no matter when you visit make sure to check out the town’s events calendar to see what’s happening during your stay!

Bavarian Lodge – Located directly across from the Village center, Bavarian Lodge offers luxurious accommodations, including turret suites, with incredible views of the Village and surrounding mountains.
OCEAN
There is something truly captivating about the wild wind and crashing waves that you’ll find along the Oregon Coast during the winter months. It’s especially enjoyable when you can watch the waves crash from the comfort of an oceanfront room, snuggled by the fire with a cup of cocoa or a glass of wine.
During the daytime, spend your time exploring small coastal towns, charming shops and galleries, and filling your belly with delicious fresh seafood!
Stay:
Headlands Coastal Lodge and Spa – A brand new lodge, set right along the beach each room features box seat views of Haystack Rock, a fireplace, private deck, and luxury amenities. The lodge itself has a spa, gym, yoga studio, restaurant and bar onsite and hosts complimentary guest receptions Fridays and Saturday evenings. Ideal for a romantic getaway or special occasion.
The Ocean Lodge, a truly beautiful and romantic lodging on the Oregon coast in Cannon Beach.
CITY
I love nothing more than escaping to the big cities during the winter months! I love how perfectly lit up the city looks against the dark winter sky…It’s magical! From now until the end of the year, you can also enjoy holiday festivities and shopping for unique seasonal gifts!
Seattle
Seattle is a great destination any time of the year and winter is no exception! Although be warned, it will more then likely rain during your visit! So spend time sipping a latte in one of the city’s many coffee shops, stroll through the Seattle Art Museum, go see a show at the 5th Avenue or the Paramount, or enjoy a fancy dinner at one of Seattle’s many nice restaurants.
Stay:
The Charter Hotel, Curio Collection Hotel – This fabulous downtown hotel offers a great location and subtle luxury. Spend your evening at the top of the hotel enjoying their indoor-outdoor bar and lounge, the Fog Room. It is perched high above the city and has some of the most epic water and mountain views!
Bellevue
Just a short hop across Lake Washington from Seattle is Bellevue. Plan your time in Bellevue around one of the most exciting winter attractions – Snowflake Lane, a complimentary nightly parade running from November 29th through December 24th. Snowflake lane features a cast of 300 performers including Toy Drummers, Jingle Belle Dancers, Stilt Walkers, Snow Flurries Color Guard and 16 lighted floats. You’ll experience the wonder of falling snow, dazzling lights, festive characters along with all your favorite holiday characters at the region’s most festive holiday scene!
Stay:
Hyatt Regency Hotel – If you’re coming to see Snowflake Lane, this is the perfect hotel for your stay. Located at The Bellevue Collection in the heart of downtown Bellevue near Bellevue Square, you will not have to travel far to reach the parade!

There are several downtown Portland attractions including Powell’s City of Books, the Portland Art Museum and even Zoolights which you can take take the MAX to! And, if you’re lucky there are numerous parks, trails and even ice skating, where you can grab a hot coffee and enjoy your time outdoors!
Stay:
The Porter – One of the newest hotels to grace Portland’s skyline, The Porter has modern, sumptuous accommodations and a rooftop bar with the best view Portland has to offer.
The Nines – The only five-star hotel in Portland, this modern luxury accommodation is the perfect starting point for your explorations.

What a great list! We are always looking for new places nearby to go to in the wintertime with the kids and this list is perfect! Suncadia sounds amazing! Thanks for sharing!
Aww absolutely! Happy you enjoyed!
Out of all of these places which do you think are the most kid friendly? We have three kids under the age of 10.
I think Suncadia, Sunriver or Brasada Ranch are the most kid friendly options!
Thanks for all the tips! I am planning to take my wife away somewhere for Valentine’s Day and these are some great options. We had never heard of Headland’s before but that place looks really nice!
Great choice! She will love it, just make sure to schedule her a spa appointment ahead of time! 🙂
We love, love, love Brasada Ranch! We have a family cabin there and it’s our favorite place in Oregon!
It’s one of our favorites as well 🙂 Such an amazing place both during the winter and summer!
